The Israel Defense Forces took responsibility for a targeted strike on the Lebanese capital of Beirut on Friday morning, killing high-ranking Hezbollah leader Ibrahim Aqil.

A spokesperson for the IDF said the strike came as Hezbollah commanders "were gathered underground under a residential building."

As tensions remained high Friday between Hezbollah and Israel, international leaders called for both sides to seek paths to de-escalate the conflict.
