More than 8,000 people in Licking County are among more than 120,000 across Ohio without power Friday afternoon as the remnants of tropical storm Helene brought strong winds and rain into the state. The heaviest outages are in southern and southwestern Ohio where Helene's remnants struck first as they pushed northward from the South.

6:11 p.m.: The amount of households in Greater Cincinnati without power has ballooned even further Friday evening. Roughly 125,000 Duke Energy customers in southwest Ohio and Northern Kentucky are without power as of 5:43 p.m. Friday, according to the Duke Energy outage map.

South Carolina was the worst-affected state, with 1,089,535 outages recorded as of early Saturday, according to PowerOutage.us, a service that tracks disruptions. In South Carolina's Greenville County alone, 258,688 outages were recorded.

The rain and high winds, which in some areas reached as high as 60 mph, caused a considerable amount of damage throughout the region.

At its peak, more than 120,000 Duke Energy customers were without power in Southwest Ohio and Northern Kentucky. Downed trees and power lines caused plenty of traffic issues as well.
