Threats against schools are increasing following a shooting at a high school in Barrow County, Ga. It is a recurring phenomenon that follows many tragic events.

Oneida County Sheriff's Department says there has been an increase in the number of threats made to schools across New York.

Threats of violence have sparked chaos at dozens of schools in Chicago and its surrounding suburbs since the beginning of the school year, leading to lockdowns, security screenings and days of remote learning.

With classes kicking back up a little over a month ago for local schools, there have been numerous threats and rumors of threats to the schools across the region.

A student has been taken into custody after a threat was made against Eighth Street Middle School in Tifton. According to a Facebook post by the Tifton Police Department (TPD), the FBI notified the Tift County 911 Center Dispatch about a possible shooting threat at the middle school on Snapchat.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department has responded to multiple false social media threats targeting schools in the Bethel, Puyallup, and Franklin Pierce School Districts over the past week, the department reported.
