Resort city Acapulco and surrounding towns face flooding and landslides and concerns about food supplies after John strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane.

Hurricane John strengthened once again on Thursday as it hurled rain at Mexico's southwestern coast dotted with ports and tourist hotspots, an area already soaked by the slow-moving storm system over the past several days.

Heavy rain battered Acapulco, Mexico, on Tuesday, September 24, as Hurricane John made landfall on the country’s Pacific coast. The Category 3 storm struck just after 9 pm, with wind gusts reaching up to 120 mph.
