Resort city Acapulco and surrounding towns face flooding and landslides and concerns about food supplies after John strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane.

Hurricane John strengthened once again on Thursday as it hurled rain at Mexico's southwestern coast dotted with ports and tourist hotspots, an area already soaked by the slow-moving storm system over the past several days.

Hurricane John dissipated over Mexico on Tuesday after barreling into the country’s southern Pacific coast overnight, leaving two dead and a trail of destruction in its path. Weakening into a tropical depression, John continued northwest of Acapulco at 3 mph as it dawdled along the coastal mountains, weakening further.
