The National Hurricane Center is continues to monitor a system in the Atlantic with low odds of developing into the seasons next tropical depression or storm and weakening Tropical Storm Rafael. As of the NHC 7 a.

Rain, tropical-storm-force winds and even the potential for some tornadoes are possible for some portions of Florida with Hurricane Rafael.

Some of the models suggest that Rafael may even do a small loop out in the Gulf. Meanwhile, a trough of low pressure near Puerto Rico is bringing heavy rain and thunderstorms to the area but has a low chance of development over the next week.

Yesterday, Rafael became a Category 3 hurricane with sustained winds of 110 mph after intensifying from a Category 2 hurricane. SURF: Swells generated by Rafael are expected to spread across most of the Gulf of Mexico during the next few days. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
