The Rays will play their 2025 home games at the Yankees’ nearby spring training ballpark amid uncertainty about the damaged Tropicana Field.

In a news release Thursday, the Rays announced they would be playing their regular season games at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa.

After years of failing to do so, the city of Tampa will finally get to be home turf for the Tampa Bay Rays, if only for a season. The Rays announced Thursday that the team would play the 2025 season at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, home to the New York Yankees’ Spring Training.

An official damage report of Tropicana Field has been released just one month after Hurricane Milton shredded its roof, resulting in significant damage to the home of the Tampa Bay Rays baseball team.

Hurricane Milton barreled into the west coast of Florida last month and left a path of destruction in its wake. This included the roof of Tropicana Field where the Tampa Bay Rays have played all of its home games since the team's inaugural season in 1998.

Tropicana Field, damaged by the winds of Hurricane Milton, will not be ready for play until at least the start of the 2026 season.
